Kyle Eastwood is the director of Frenzy Youth Theatre and has been teaching drama for seven years! She gave Silly Fish the inside scoop on who Frenzy Youth Theatre are and what they do.
SF: How did you end up opening Frenzy Youth Theatre?
Kyle: I started my teaching career by training in Drama with English for secondary schools. I then went on to teach in state and private schools as a Drama teacher before finishing as Head of Drama at the school I attended as a student. I left this job to set up a theatre company and now I run Frenzy Youth Theatre and teach ages 22 months-18 years and I love it!
SF: How do you teach at Frenzy Youth Theatre?
Kyle: The primary focus of Frenzy Youth Theatre is imagination and creativity.
Our Mini Frenzy Drama and Imaginative Play classes for ages 3-5 are action-packed and carefully crafted to empower little ones with confidence, creativity and co-operation. Members are enabled to comfortably explore the world around them through the use of interactive story and improvisation. The youngsters are guided through the stories creatively but it is their own imagination that leads the way, making every session unique and individual.
All of our youth theatre classes focus on the young peoples’ creativity. They are enabled to create stories, situations and characters that come from their own ideas. All of our productions are devised by the members before being scripted by me. Their choice of character is included as are their ideas and sometimes even dialogue!
SF: It sounds like you run a pretty great operation! Do you have any advice for other teachers looking to bring out the best in their students?
Kyle: Remember that our students are the ones who really matter! They are the reason we teach and their happiness and well-being should be at the forefront at all times. Creativity and imagination are two of the most important tools children can have and we as teachers should be striving to continually harness this rather than discourage it!Creativity and imagination are two of the most important tools children can have and we as teachers should be striving to continually harness this rather than discourage it! - @FrenzyYTheatre Click To Tweet
