It’s time for a fan favourite! ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’ is one of our most requested games amongst preschoolers and the second most popular incentive activity.
What’s more, the format of this games helps younger children practise times and counting and is a great TEFL game.
- Line the students up along one wall.
- Ask one person (the wolf) to stand at the opposite end of the room facing the wall.
- The students in the line ask, ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’.
- The wolf responds, ‘It’s… o’clock.’ (Number 1-12).
- The students then step towards the wolf, taking the specified number of steps, i.e. 3 steps for 3 o’clock.
- When the wolf believes the other children are close they can say, ‘It’s lunchtime!’.
- The other students must then run away and are chased by the wolf.
- The person caught by the wolf is the new wolf and the game begins again.
- Some students don’t want to stop being the wolf. We add the rule that students must step backwards if they reach the wolf and are given another number.
- Limit the number of times the wolf can make the students step backwards. Specify this at the start of the game.
- Depending on the age of the students, it can be valuable to act as the wolf yourself or ask a classroom assistant or the first round.
- For an added element of characterisation, ask the students to really act like the wolf.
