Space Beans | An Alien Variation on Our Most Popular Drama Game

The Space Beans drama game is an energising variation on the classic, Beans with greater potential for characterisation.  Pair it with our Flying Saucer craft for a space themed class!

This game can safely be played while social distancing or teaching online.

COVID-19 Update!
Try to keep your students spaced two metres apart throughout the game. Perhaps consider marking a space for each student on the floor.

Instructions

  • Have students find a space in the room.
  • When the teachers calls the following, the students should perform the corresponding action
  • Rocket – stretch up high with your hands together to make a point.
  • Star – star jumps.
  • Planet – turn in a circle.
  • Meteor – crash to the ground.
  • Low gravity – move around in slow motion.
  • Alien – wave your arms like tentacles and make your best alien face.
  • Robot – walk around like a robot.

In my experience

Beans is such an easy game to adapt and it always has great results. Being able to call out actions that make the kids move faster or slower makes this game an invaluable classroom management activity.

It took me about 15 minutes to think up a space themed set of actions for this game. With a little bit of imagination, the possibilities are endless. To infinity, and beyond!

We had so much fun playing Space Beans with the Prague Youth Theatre Tots today that I wanted to share it with our readers.
